Review: Disney on Ice's Princess Classics

Who knew a trip to Disney World was a five-minute drive away? Disney on Ice: Princess Classics, directed by Jerry Bilik, was a delightful two hours filled with all that Disney promises: true love, musical laughter and magic!
My mother and I took my four-year-old daughter Erin (dressed in her Cinderella best!) to the show at the Dunkin Donuts Center and it was nothing short of spectacular. As soon as the characters hit the ice, we all knew we were in for an amazing show.

The Magic Begins

Tinkerbell started things off by casting fairy dust all over and then the crowd went wild, myself included, when Mickey and Minnie Mouse skated into action. I was transported back to when I was eight years old and went to Disney World for the first time. Disney truly is magic personified.

In the first half of the show, each princess save Cinderella told her story through skating and song: Jasmine (Aladdin), Briar Rose/Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Mulan (Mulan), Snow White (Snow White) and Belle (Beauty and the Beast). The props, costumes, hair and makeup were a feast for the eyes and the skaters’ athleticism is absolutely breathtaking.

The Glass Slipper

After a short intermission, we got to see an extended version of the story of Cinderella complete with hilarious portrayals of her stepsisters Drizella and Anastasia. Every child and adult was transfixed as a pumpkin became a coach and Cinderella transformed into the princess we all know and love.

For the finale, each princess and her prince skated out in white and gold gowns and suits signifying the marriage of all. I waved like a giddy child to the princesses and Mickey and Minnie, grateful for feeling like a child again as my own child waved, too.

This show is for children and adults alike and each of us has our own favorite Disney Princess: who’s yours?
