Providence’s dogs, cats and other critters are looking to leave the “ruff” life behind as they move to a new 7000-square-foot facility this Tuesday morning. Built in partnership with the Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC), the Providence Animal Shelter will open its doors at its new location, at 200 Terminal Road (off Allens Avenue), which is nearly twice the size of the old building. It boasts 40 regular kennels, 20 isolation kennels and separate medical, education and grooming rooms.

Adopters Wanted

Shelter staff will begin moving animals from the current location to the new facility on Tuesday, but in an effort to encourage more people to adopt animals and offer them forever homes, the shelter is waiving its adoption fee through October 9th, and the NBC will give away free leashes and treats to the first 100 people who adopt.
