NEW: Dropkick Murphys, Pauly D Back in the 401 this Weekend
Friday, September 16, 2011
Talk about two local stars who couldn't be more different hitting the 401 this weekend...
Shipping down from Boston: The Dropkick Murphys
First up: The Dropkick Murphys are going to rock the Providence waterfront at the Whiskey Republic (where frontman Ken Casey is owner), headlining the Shamrock-N-Roll Festival tonight (doors open at 5pm). The boys are already in town, and told GoLocalProv's Leah Michaels that they were "just as excited to play a parking lot in Providence as we are to play Fenway Park," where they sold out recently.
The rockers told Michaels that their music, albeit locally inspired, makes listeners outside of New England as revved up as local crowds. "Our music is about being proud of where you're from and having roots," said Casey. "No matter where we go, people get that feeling from our music. People have come up to us in other places and said our music makes them proud to be where they're from."

And speaking of being from a place, the DJ that Johnston spawned will be back in town on Saturday to spin discs and whip up the home team at a major party event at Waterplace in downtown Providence.
The "Back to College" Block Party will be cranking up the volume at View at Waterplace from 1-5pm on Saturday. The VIP section is reserved for age 18+ college students who purchased Cox Communications services (you can still do this by clicking here), but the public is welcome throughout the rest of the park surrounding Waterplace to catch the beats.
