While there may be no Bristol 4th of July parade or big fireworks, there are great ways to enjoy the best of the Ocean State.

Providence River Cruises
Discover the history behind Providence’s waterways, or just relax on the water along to this narrated riverboat tour.
The Providence River Boat Company will be running 50-minute tours throughout the day, but reservations must be made online ahead of time. Face masks are required.

Water Sports
Take out a kayak or paddleboard for a few hours and enjoy Rhode Island's coasts, rivers and lakes.
Call or go online to a rental location near you to reserve your spot ahead of time.
Some highly rated locations include Paddle Sports in East Greenwich, Narrow River Kayaks in Narragansett, or Providence Kayak Co. in downtown Providence.
Go Historical Sight-Seeing
Explore one of Rhode Island's numerous historic landmarks or museums.
The Newport Mansions Preservation Society is selling tickets online for tours of the Breakers and Elms mansions between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Historic Wickford offers free, self-guided walking tours -- any time -- of one of the oldest preserved colonial villages in the country.
More Historical Sight-Seeing
In 1778, Rhode Island was the site of one of the largest battles of the Revolutionary War.
Those interested in historical sight-seeing related specifically to the Fourth can spend the holiday visiting the forts used in this battle with a free, self-guided tour offered by the Rhode Tour.
The tour begins at Fort Barton, Tiverton and ends at Conanicut Battery, Jamestown.
RunnerMania
Are you a runner? Do you like a challenge?
Spend the 4th outside by participating in the Virtual Run Challenge’s “RunnerMania Providence.”
Participants can choose to complete a 5k and/or half marathon between July 3-5 for $40-$65, or you can register for the “24 Hour Ultra” race starting at 12 p.m. July 4 for $55.
Visit Block Island
Head to Block Island for the day and explore the great outdoors -- take in the Mohegan Bluffs, or just relax at the beach.
The Island will also be offering a parade and steak fry at 11 a.m.
The traditional ferry is operating between Point Judith and Block Island and tickets can be bought online. Masks are required on the ferry.
Watch a Virtual Concert
Attend a concert via virtual live stream from the comfort of your home.
The U.S. Air Force Band will be live streaming their free, “Tribute to the American Spirit” concert at 4 p.m. Sign-in HERE.
The Boston Pops Orchestra will also broadcast their concert live on TV, radio & livestream starting at 8 p.m. See HERE.
Visit the Zoo
While all buildings and animal feeding features remain closed to the public, the zoo still has over 160 animals on exhibit and a “Soaring Eagle” zip ride providing an aerial view of Providence and the Narragansett Bay.
The zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online only. Masks are required.
Go Biking
There are over 60 miles of cycling paths in Rhode Island to explore.
The Blackstone River Bikeway offers scenic views of the Blackstone River, marshes and wildlife, plus views of the state's old mills and the historic Blackstone Canal.
Other popular routes in different areas of the state include East Bay Bike Path and Quonset Bike Path.
Go to the Beach
Head to the coast for the day and just enjoy one of the state's beautiful beaches.

Providence Scavenger Hunts
Puzzling Adventures is offering self-guided scavenger hunts—friendly for all ages—which will take you to locations around Providence, where you’ll be asked to solve puzzles and answer questions.
On July 4, the race starts at 10 a.m. though you may start at any time throughout the day.
Tickets are $19.99 + fees and should be bought online.
Take a Picnic to the Park
Take a picnic and some friends to one of Rhode Island's parks for a few hours.
Many of the state's parks have abundant walking trails and picturesque views, some even offer recreational activities like golf and fishing.

Go to a Drive-In Movie
Instead of watching fireworks at night, you can catch a movie at one of Rhode Island’s drive-in theaters.
The Misquamicut Drive-in is showing The Goonies for $15 per car, though tickets must be ordered ahead of time.
The Rustic Tri-View Drive-in is also open for $27 per car; specific details about the showing are yet to be released.
