Friday, August 13, 2010
For Providence native Elise Fargnoli (right), the past few months have been a whirlwind. The design impresario studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied textiles and design while mastering her craft as an artist. Her passion for fashion, however, was relentless, and Fargnoli successfully merged her talent for both by launching Francesca Joy this past March, an ultra-feminine line of totes, chemises, wristlets and home décor. “I’m a painter and artist primarily,” she says, adding that each Francesca Joy piece is one of a kind. “People can take home a little piece of artwork.”
Fargnoli founded the company in January of 2010 after meeting Palm Beach-based interior designer Carolyn Roy, who has become her business partner. Since then, Francesca Joy has been picked up by finer boutiques
nationwide. Though Fargnoli concedes the brand often gets lumped into preppy market, due in part because of each piece's clean design and bold color, she is quick to point out that its versatile, attracting everyone from students to ladies who lunch. “We reach people all over the country, and I like that we really have something for everyone.”Fargnoli will be on hand at the Francesca Joy Trunk Show at Wish (664 Thames St, Newport, 848-0202) today and tomorrow, from 12pm to 4pm both days.
