An inspiration for Americans of all ages: Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King (MLK) day is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is always close to Dr. King's birthday, January 15. This is an ideal time to reflect on how MLK changed people's lives by advocating for their civil rights and how he promoted equality through non-violent means. We can share his message with our kids from an early age by our kind words and actions towards others. As our children enter school we can read and discuss more about his ideals and how they connect with history - past and present.

Make time this weekend to read books about Martin Luther King, listen to his "I Have a Dream" speech, and talk about the American Civil Rights Movement and Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence with your family.
