Equestrian to elegant, over-the-knee to outlandish rock n’ roll, boots are the quintessential fall footwear for women that can easily define an ensemble. Soft, sexy, slouchy boots can lend a casual feel to an outfit while tall and sleek styles have an air of unbridled sophistication. Local boutique owners are seeing a demand for a variey of boot styles this season.

The Classic

Frye, Frye, Frye,” declared Caitlin Taylor, “they’re classic, they’re amazing and we have more of them than ever.” Taylor has seen boot trends come and go in the six years she has worked at Berk’s Shoes & Clothing Store, a Thayer Street fixture, but pointed out all Frye styles; riding, harness, cowboy-inspired, knee-high (“Campus” style), lace-up, and cuffed, are hotter than ever.

Fashion Forward

Dixie Carroll, owner of J. Marcel on Providence’s Hope Street, said steadfast trends endure while others continue to emerge. “Over the knee boots are still popular, probably because they look so great with the skinny jeans that are still everywhere, and, of course, they look fabulous with skirts.” But, she says, cowboy/western boots also continue to see a surge in popularity. “Some new trends for this year are lace up boots, as well as anything with faux fur or shearling,” she said. “And in Providence, one thing that will never go out of style are flat or low heeled boots of any make because they are so great for walking!”
