Take an ounce of alchemy and a pound of passion for natural fragrance and Providence Perfume Company is born. Charna Ethier, founder and Providence resident, combines all-natural botanicals and extracts to create delicious and unique fragrances right here in what she calls, “the biggest little city in Rhode Island.”

Ethier’s inspiration for fragrance started early, growing up in New Hampshire and Vermont, with bohemian, earthy parents who encouraged free expression and respect for nature.  She and her mother would often make their own body splashes using alcohol and floral extracts.  “I still look to my mother for her knowledge and advice today about my fragrances," Ethier says, "to see what she thinks and if she likes what I have created.”

After working in fragrance retail for a few years, Ethier was inspired to create her own line.  Providence Perfume Company is dedicated to custom fragrances using as many natural and organic ingredients as she can get her hands on.  “If someone wants rose, I want them to have real rose, not something synthetic,” she says.

With exotic blends such as Ginger Lily (oriental), Osmanthus Oolong (fruity), Divine (floral), Cocoa Tuberose (gourmand), Tabac Citron (citrus), and Indolice (original chypre) Ethier's line has already created a stir.  Catch her while she's local!

$115 for one-ounce individual fragrances; sampler set of six 5-ml fragrances $125, available at Green Envy Eco-Boutique, Newport, as well as online at www.providenceperfume.com
