Hockey + More Hockey in Providence
Friday-Sunday Warm up for this Sunday's Pats-Ravens smack down with some good hard-hitting hockey in Providence… there's plenty of it. At the Dunk, the PBruins will be on the ice twice this weekend. On Friday, they face the Worcester Sharks at 7:05, and it's Mug Night to boot. On Sunday they take on Springfield Falcons at 4:05. For more, go here. Opera Star Renee Fleming at The VETS
Saturday It's a big night in Providence when world-renowned soprano Renee Fleming takes the stage in a gala concert celebrating the rededication of The VETS. Tickets $35-$250 (the $250 ticket includes admission to a pre-performance champagne reception). Call 421-2787 to order. For more, go here.

Sunday Historical reenactors start a new year of house tours and demonstrations of daily living in the 18th century on weekends starting this Sunday at the Smith-Appleby House Museum in Smithfield. Watch demonstrations;
examine period furnishings, clothing and household items; and sample hearth-baked goods. Tours 12-3pm, Smith-Appleby House, 220 Stillwater Rd, Smithfield. $5 donation for adults and children are free. No reservations needed.Bohemian Quartet at Cumberland
Saturday Watching the Bohemian Quartet perform live is like listening to history being preserved. In many ways, this gifted and exhilarating act is simply keeping a rare musical flame alive by taking on the challenging oeuvre of the Romany, or “gypsy” musical tradition. Those of you who’ve already seen their show know how mesmerizing and captivating it can be. Those who’ve missed it thus far are in for a treat. 8pm, $15. Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St, Cumberland.
Make King Cakes in Providence
It's Epiphany season, and you can make your own Galette des Rois (the cake of the Kings) the cake celebrating Epiphany. Tradition holds that the cake is "to draw the kings" to the Epiphany. A figurine, la fève, which can represent anything from a car to a cartoon character, is hidden in the cake and the person who gets the trinket is declared the King or Queen of the day. 6-7pm cake making, 7-8pm chamber music, at the Alliance Francaise de Providence, 928 Smith St, Providence.
