Arc Iris Comes Home to an Album Release Show Tonight at the Columbus Theatre

This week on we feature a couple of our favorite “Coffeehouse” style venues as well as a couple more that extend the coffeehouse ethos – bringing quality music to local communities at an affordable price. Unlike the bar scene, a coffeehouse is a quiet stage where the artists can really focus and the audience can really listen. We highlight some new artists along with some familiar faces this week on “5 Live Music Musts.”

Garland Jeffreys Tonight

Although they serve a little more than coffee, the Purple Cat Vineyard in Chepachet is been hosting a fine series on shows lately – we recently attended a great night there with Marshall Crenshaw. Tonight they host NYC based singer-songwriter Garland Jeffreys. The veteran player is a “songwriter’s songwriter” and had been feted by stars from Lou Reed to Bruce Springsteen to Johnny Cash.  The show begins at 7:15 with The Shivers, featuring singer-songwriter Keith Zarriello. Ticket information here.

Wild Ponies Tomorrow

The Wild Ponies are a rising Americana/Country band from Nashville. They recently released a new album, Radiant, that’s received a lot of positive press. A quick listen affirms - behind the twangy vocals of Telisha Wiliams, the Wild Ponies should be getting a lot more attention in the near future. You can check them out tomorrow night at Common Fence Music, a popular Portsmouth coffee house. Details here.

Joe Crookston Tomorrow

The Stone Soup Coffeehouse at Slater Mill in Pawtucket is the dean of the local coffeehouse community. The line-up for their 37th season is better than ever. That includes tomorrow night’s show with Joe Crookston. Crookston is a singer, songwriter, and dreamer in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, and can sing and play with the best of them. His show features stories about “Oklahoma towns, rattlesnake tails, Taoist parables and drunk roosters.” Where do we sign up? Details here.
