The Pronk Festival returns to Providence this weekend.

The holiday weekend means more time to get out and listen to live music. “5 Live Music Musts” has your top picks for this weekend and beyond …

Engelbert Humperdinck at Park Theatre Sunday

What international legend with over 150 million albums sold over a 50 year career is appearing in Rhode Island this weekend? Engelbert Humperdinck of course, and he’s just released a new album, Engelbert Calling, featuring duets with artists as diverse as Elton John, Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick, and Gene Simmons.  The Sunday night show at Cranston’s Park Theatre is close to a sell-out – a few balcony seats remain starting at $55.

Concert Against Domestic Violence Saturday

The Church Street Coffeehouse presents a Concert against Domestic Violence tomorrow night at the First Methodist Church in Warren. It’s an opportunity to support a great cause and hear Folk, Country, Rock and Blues from artists including Matt Borelo, Chuck Williams and Marylou Ferrante. A $15 minimum donation gets you into the show which benefits the Women’s Resource Center. Music starts at 7:30PM.

Zox at Lupo's Saturday

Zox is an indie band that was a big part of the PVD scene in the early 2000’s. They return to Lupo’s in downtown Providence tomorrow night for a reunion show. If you don’t know them, their sound is a pleasing blend of pop, funk, reggae, and even classical. It’s an early show tomorrow night with The Sugar Honey Iced Tea and Neo Nuveau opening at 6:30. Tickets are $15.

Blanca and Chuchi at Lilypads Sunday

Lilypads is a coffeehouse style venue in Peacedale that presents a wide range of musical styles. This week is no different as they welcome Blanca and Chuchi, a violin – guitar duo on Sunday. The act comes all the way from the Castilian region of northern Spain and brings an upbeat sound to a traditional folk style. The show is Sunday at 3PM - tickets are $10 at the door.

Pronk Festival at India Point Park Monday

The PRONK Festival (Providence Honk) is part concert, part street party, part anarchist manifesto ... and part of what is making Providence a desitination city for arts and entertainment. A number of horn-based bands will be playing all weekend long at India Point Park and the Hot Club. Locals like the Extraordinary Rendition Band will be joined by bands from all over the country. It’s a great family event that culminates in the parade down Wickenden Street at 5PM on Monday with music continuing into the night. Check the web site for all the details. 

BONUS PICK: Richard Thompson at The Narrows Center Oct. 15

Richard Thompson could easily be called the world's greatest living guitarist. The founder of the groundbreaking British folk group Fairport Convention, Thompson brings his virtuoso guitar skills and his keen wit to The Narrows Center next Wednesday October 15. This is a top concert pick of the Fall season – see the slideshow below. Amanda Shires opens promptly at 8PM. The show is officially sold out, but if you get the chance, don’t miss him!

Iggy Azalea

Fresh of her chart topping hit, “Fancy,” Iggy Azalea will be kicking up a storm at URI’s Ryan Center in Kingston on Saturday, September 27. In recent months, the Australian native has risen to the level of pop superstardom and she just released a steamy video, “Booty,” with Jennifer Lopez. The show is sold out, although URI students might still be able to score tickets.

He’s the author of one of the most iconic songs in Rock and Roll history. 40+ years later, "American Pie," the story of a generation, is a staple on FM radio and a part of pop culture. Don McLean will be in concert at Woonsocket’s venerable Stadium Theatre on Thursday, November 13. It's a not-to-be-missed show. Click here for tickets.

Blues legend Buddy Guy will be returning to the Park Theatre this Fall, where his over-the-top guitar antics have dazzled sold out crowds the last two years. Richard Thompson

Richard Thompson will be making a rare solo appearance on October 15 at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River. Thompson is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time, a master finger-style player who began his career with the British folk group Fairport Convention in the 1960’s. The  show is sold out.

Bob Dylan

Pretty much every recording artist since the early 60s owes something to Bob Dylan. His influence seems to have no end. The bard will be at PPAC on Saturday November 15th on his Never Ending Tour on the heels of his “new” release “The Complete Basement Tapes,” a 6CD box set of the classic Woodstock, NY recordings with the Band.
