Boo City headlines Nick-A-Nees Saturday Night

“5 Live Music Musts” picks the top Providence area concerts each week.This weekend, plan to "go local" and check out some gigs happening right here in the capital city. We’ve selected show from some of the top local venues that have great music week after week, night after night. Its all local, all rock, all the time!

Nick-A-Nees Celebrates 20

Nick-A-Nees celebrates its 20th anniversary starting tonight with a full weekend of great sounds. The esteemed downcity dive bar expects to have bands playing under an outdoor tent. Performers include Cactus Attack and Mighty Good Boys on Friday, Boo City (pictured), Biscuit City and Wade Devers & the Deathbed Confessions on Saturday, and Mark Cutler & the Men of Great Courage, Z Boys, and Sasquatch and the Sick-a-billy's on Sunday. Music begins tonight at 9PM and Saturday and Sunday at 4PM. All always, no cover.

The Spot Tonight

Head to The Spot tonight for Kooked Out, a surf punk band from Boston celebrating their self-titled EP which was released earlier this month. The band is known for their provocative lyrics and punk rock attitude. Also performing will be rockers Under the Microscope and Nate Cozollino and the Lost Arts. Music begins around 9PM.

Firehouse 13 Tonight

Lady rockers are front and center tonight at Firehouse 13 where three local bands take the stage. RI's punk inspired Sugar Cones along Sex Coffee, two female-fronted bands, are joined by Boston’s Sunshine Riot, for a show that we expect will rock into the wee hours. Music starts around 9PM – $8 cover.

AS220 Saturday

Boston’s Kid Mountain, known for their psychedelic dream pop sound, headline a massive bill at AS220 tomorrow night. Indie bands also on the bill include garage/punk rockers The Adjuncts, Straight To VHS, and Austin Hevey & The Heavies. Music starts at 9PM, $6 cover with free hugs all but guaranteed.

Jazz at the Vineyard

A brief escape from the city may take you to Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard in Little Compton where the Sunday Jazz Series is underway. This week, check out Gypsy Nights, an accordion centered RI based gypsy jazz band. Future shows include area jazz artists Ron Reid and Sunstreet and the Joe Potenza-Christine Fawson Quartet. Music runs from 1-4. No cover.
