The music scene is all about the creative capital this weekend. We’ve got jazz, rock, reggae, indie and more in Providence. Check out some of the best on “5 Live Music Musts.”
Wynton Marsailis and JALC tonight at The Vets Tonight

Tonight, Veteran's Memorial Auditorium welcomes the award winning ensemble for a special holiday show “Big Band Holidays,” described as “a night of swinging holiday favorites, New Orleans inflections and jazzy good cheer.“ The dance troupe This is a rare chance to see what has to be considered the best jazz orchestra in the world. San Fermin at Columbus Theatre Tonight
Brooklyn based baroque pop collective San Fermin plays the upstairs room at the Columbus Theatre in Providence tonight. Led by RI native and classical composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone, the 8 piece ensemble came together in 2012. The band released their second album, Jackrabbit, in April 2015, to heaps of critical praise. Sam Amidon opens – tickets are $15 and should be available at the door.
Matisyahu at The Vets Saturday
Matisyahu returns to Providence tomorrow night with a show of classics and new material, just in time for Hannukah. The Orthodox Jewish reggae/rap singer has toned down his on stage persona in recent years, but is still as popular as ever. According to reports, he’ll be featuring stripped down versions of songs from throughout his career. Show begins at 7PM at The Vets - good seats still available here starting at $35.
Tedeschi Trucks Band at PPAC Saturday
The husband/wife team at the core of the Tedeschi Trucks Band is a fine example of the whole being better than the parts (although the parts are pretty damn good themselves!) Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks are both renown guitarists in their own right, with Trucks listed as #16 all time by Rolling Stone Magazine in a recent survey. Fans won’t want to miss it when the cutest couple in rock and roll play the Providence Performing Arts Center tomorrow night. The talented folk rocker Shawn Mullins opens at 7:30. Food/Coat Drive Sunday at Fatt Squirrel
A number of hip indie bands will be playing Sunday night at the Fatt Squirrel in Providence for “It’s Getting Cold Out There: 2nd Annual Food/Veteran’s Coat/Pet Supply Drive.” Please bring canned food and warm coats to benefit the BHL Ministry and pet supplies for PARL and the Woonsocket Cat Sanctuary. Performers include The Silent Shoals, Jodi Jolt and The Mad Hatter – Music starts at 6PM, tickets are $10, $5 with two or more donations of non-perishable food, coats, or pet supplies.
