Starting on Labor Day weekend, a traveling photo exhibit, entitled Project 3.8, will pay tribute to the legacy of Dorian Murray and 19 other Rhode Island children who are battling Pediatric Cancer in an effort to raise awareness for the disease and the impact it has on children and families.
“The #DStrong movement was so powerful and demonstrated what can be done when we come together as a global community. If this campaign can make an important contribution in the fight to eliminate pediatric cancer, then I will be truly grateful that Dorian’s short-time in the world spotlight was for a meaningful purpose,” said Melissa Murray, Dorian’s Mom and President of the Dorian J. Murray Foundation.
The exhibit will start on September 3, 2016 to mark the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month at the Ocean House and will continue at locations all across the state through the end of October. The shows are open to all ages with a $10 donation suggestion. All proceeds will benefit the Dorian J. Murray Foundation.

The schedule is as follows:
September 3 - The Ocean House
September 9-18 - Candita Clayton Gallery, Pawtucket
September 24 – Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard – Little Compton
October 1 - Biltmore Hotel, Providence- partnered with the 5th Annual Izzy Gala
October 29 - Jamestown Art Center
According to the National Cancer Institute, over 15,000 children ages 0-19 are diagnosed with cancer in the United States each far, yet the amount of research funding that goes to finding a cure for pediatric cancer accounts for just 3.8% of all cancer research dollars.
“Pediatric cancer impacts families in ways that most people cannot begin to imagine. It is our hope that through this campaign, our community will better understand the challenges faced by the families of these children and will join us in working together to increase funding aimed at finding a cure for this devastating illness,” said Wickford-based photographer Robyn Ivy, a friend of the Murray family who took the iconic ‘boxing’ photo of Dorian that helped draw attention to his fight.
Get Involved
For those who want to become involved, they can attend the show, make a financial contribution, become a sponsors or become affiliated with local organizations like the Izzy Foundation and the Tomorrow Fund.
