About McNamara

McNamara has been a supporter of public health initiatives.

“He is one of our most valued partners in ensuring the Department of Health achieves our strategic priorities of addressing the socioeconomic and environmental determinants of health, eliminating health disparities and promoting heath equity, and ensuring access to quality health services for all Rhode Islanders. We are proud to recognize him today as a public health champion,” said Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, director of the Department of Health.

In 2016, he sponsored the Rhode Island Family Home Visiting Act, establishing the family home visiting program.

The same year he also introduced legislation that was part of a comprehensive substance use disorder package which allowed better sharing of data, giving providers the information they need to monitor prescribing practices.
