The Cellar: 3rd Annual Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Market
Friday, June 13, 2014
Few people know that Southern New England has its own defined viticultural area. It is called the Southeastern New England American Viticultural Area (SENE AVA) and runs from Cape Cod and the Islands along the coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island and into Connecticut. The ten vineyards that make up the Coastal Wine Trial runs through the heart of this appellation with many of them located right here in Rhode Island. SENE AVA was formed in 1984 and to celebrate 30 successful years since the organization’s start, the Coastal Wine Trail is proud to announce its 3rd Annual Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Market in the beautiful coastal town of Westport, Massachusetts.
If you are one of the many New Englanders who have always wanted to visit one of our local vineyards, but haven’t been able to find the time, this event is your chance to try them all at one single event! All ten Coastal Wine Trail member wineries will be pouring their wines – everything from bubbles, whites, roses, reds and dessert wine. In addition to the abundance of wine more than 20 food vendors will also be present with samples that include chocolate, cheese, honey, bread and more!

About the wines:
The totality of the geographical, geological and climatic characteristics of Southeastern New England, what we wine nerds call the ‘terroir’, is often compared to those of Northern Europe. Because our region experiences a long and cool growing season, similar to that of France’s Loire and Alsace regions, many of the same varietals are grown here including Pinot Gris, Vidal Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Riesling, as well as reds including Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Lemberger. Come and taste the unique terroir of our very own region.
The Coastal Wine Trail members that will be present at the event include; Coastal Vineyards, Greenvale Vineyards, Langworthy Farm, Newport Vineyards, Running Brook Vineyards, Carolyn's Sakonnet Vineyard, Travessia Winery, Truro Vineyards + South Hollow Spirits, Westport Rivers Vineyard & Winery, and Stonington Vineyards.
The event features three sessions; 11am-1:30pm, 2:30pm-5pm, and 6pm-8:30pm. The event takes place at the Westport Fairgrounds, 200 Pine Hill Road, Westport, MA. Tickets can be purchased through the Coastal Wine Trail Website. Tickets are $25 in advance and $40 at the door.
See you there.
