Unchecked Carbon Emissions Could Cause Worldwide Food Crisis

A new report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that climate change has the potential to severely impact food production.
According to the IPCC, rising CO2 levels have already reduced the nutritional value of crops, which in turn significantly reduces crop yields.
An increase in the size and intensity of extreme weather events are also playing a role in the increase of food prices.

Record-breaking heat waves in Europe have also caused an expected 13 percent decline in France’s wine production.
The IPCC Special Report says that agriculture and global food systems must be reformed in order to prevent further damage. as they produce more than one-third of the world’s total carbon emissions.
Countries must also focus on reducing deforestation, as enhancing biodiversity and increasing organic carbon in soils are key to sustainability.
