Two Providence dining and drinking establishments have announced this week they are going to be closing temporarily — with no date certain for reopening.

Cafe Nuovo said Thursday it is taking a “brief intermission” on December 7 and expects to re-open in "early 2021."

The Eddy — located between Weybosset and Westminster — said on Friday its “last day of service” will be December 20 — with no time frame for reopening.

Their messages to the public are below.

Cafe Nuovo

"As we collectively navigate our personal and professional lives in the midst of these trying times, we have made the difficult decision to take a brief intermission, effective Monday, December 7, 2020.  We expect to re-open in early 2021. As you can imagine, this decision did not come easily, but with the knowledge and information presented to us during these most challenging times, such a decision had to be made.

We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you posted as we move forward. Upon reopening, our goal is to deliver the same Cafe Nuovo level of culinary excellence and professionalism.

In the meantime, we would respectfully ask for your continued support through the purchase of Gift Cards, especially during the Holiday Season! You can order online at cafenuovo.com under Gift Cards, by phone at (401)421-2525 or in person Monday through Saturday, 12 pm - 5 pm. It can be mailed to you or directly to the recipient with your message!"

The Eddy

"Well, the time has finally come. We have decided that our last day of service will be December 20th. This is not a permanent closure, we will re-open, we just aren’t quite sure when that will be.

Thank you all for supporting us through all of the craziness that this year has thrown at us. We appreciate it more than you know. If you want to continue to support us in the next two weeks get take out, buy a gift card, or come sit outside on our patio while you still can.

We have a few things up our sleeves to keep us busy during this pause so stay tuned as we navigate these rapidly changing times.

Our hours going forward will be Friday-Sunday 5pm-10/10:30pm."
