PowerBall Jackpot Climbs to $500 Million
Wednesday, February 11, 2015
The Rhode Island Lottery has announced that Saturday's PowerBall® drawing didn't produce any jackpot winning tickets, which means Wednesday's estimated jackpot is a whopping $500 million. This is the 3rd highest PowerBall® jackpot ever in the game's history and the largest PowerBall® jackpot amount since February 19, 2014. If the $500 million jackpot is hit, and the winner chooses the cash option, the lump sum payment would be $337.8 million.
There have been 20 PowerBall® drawings without a jackpot winner since the last jackpot was hit on November 29, 2014. Rhode Islanders continue to collect money winning the subsidiary prizes, ranging up to $1,000,000. Saturday's drawing had one ticket match four numbers and the PowerBall® number to win the standard payout of $10,000. The player did not opt for the PowerPlay® option for an extra $1 on the wager. If the player had added PowerPlay®, the $10,000 prize would have been multiplied by 5, Saturday's PowerPlay® number, to equal $50,000. Rite Aid at 677 Main Rd., Tiverton, sold the winning ticket, which has yet to be claimed.
The last big PowerBall® jackpot from February of 2014 had a $10,000 winning PowerBall® ticket sold in Rhode Island that is still unclaimed. That ticket was purchased from Cumberland Farms, 704 Main St., West Warwick, and will expire on February 19, 2015, so players should always check their tickets, even if there is no jackpot winner in Rhode Island. All players should sign the back of their tickets immediately upon purchase and put them in a safe place. The tickets are the only claim to a prize.
