November data indicates that 24% of all realtor-assisted property sales involved buyers from other states. In the luxury market comprised of properties sold for $1 million or more, 53% of sales are derived from out-of-state buyers.
Selling for the first time since 2006, the gilded age home was built by renowned New York architect Charles A. Platt. “Bois Doré”, circa 1927, is gracefully sited on four private acres off Bellevue Avenue. Located five blocks from The Breakers, the home is designed in the Louis XVI style boasting a marble foyer entrance. Wrought iron and glass front doors complement the timeless limestone façade and center the two wings of the home. An 85-foot great hall extends to either side, giving the space a sense of balance and grandeur.
“This historic home is an architectural masterpiece steeped in Newport society,” said Judy Chace about the estate. “We are proud to have represented this iconic famed Newport Mansion.”
The home is adorned with details such as Martin Battersby trompe l’oeil art, a style of painting in which objects are depicted with photographically realistic detail, and the largest ballroom of any private home in Newport with an antique eight-foot Regency chandelier sparkling.
Kylie McCollough said, “Once described as one of the last great houses built for Newport, this extraordinary property is a beautiful piece of Rhode Island history. It has been an honor to be a part of this home’s story.”
“A wonderful way to end a year full of exciting real estate,” says Ray Mott, Broker/Co-Owner of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. “Thank you to all who have made this a year to remember.”
