The property has a remarkable history that includes the family of a New York Governor, the backdrop for the Dark Shadows TV show, and much more.
The sellers were represented by STAY Newport, the locally founded real estate and hospitality firm led by Newport sisters Marielle Clair and Brianna Ferrara.
Located at 207 Ruggles Avenue, the iconic estate spans nearly eight acres between Bellevue Avenue and the Cliff Walk. With more than 43,000 square feet of living space, 29 bedrooms, and 18 baths, Seaview Terrace ranks as the fourth-largest of Newport’s famed Gilded Age “cottages,” following The Breakers, Ochre Court, and Belcourt.
Built by bourbon magnate Edson Bradley Jr. as a 50th wedding anniversary gift for his wife, Julia Wentworth, Seaview Terrace has stood for more than a century as one of Newport’s most architecturally and historically significant private residences.
“This sale represented far more than a transaction,” said Marielle Clair, co-founder of STAY Newport. “Our clients spent over fifty years loving and stewarding Seaview Terrace. Guiding them through this transition — with care, discretion, and respect for the estate’s legacy — was a true honor.”
STAY Newport managed a highly strategic and confidential sales process for the sellers, navigating the complexities inherent in transferring one of Newport’s most storied private estates.
