According to multiple reports, the Washington Post is firing 300 workers — primarily in the newsroom

Reportedly, the entire sports department is being cut.

Post owner Jeffrey Bezos, whose net worth is reportedly in excess of $250 million, has owned the paper since 2013. He bought it from the venable Graham family.

This latest slash is expected to save the paper $50 million or more — the reported amount that he spent on his Venice wedding in 2025. According to a salary study by the Post's Guild, the median salary was about $110,000 in 2019.

The Post lost $77 million in 2023 and $100 million in 2024, The Wall Street Journal previously reported

The cuts create a major loss to journalism in America. The newspaper is best known for its coverage of the Watergate break-in, which ultimately led to the resignation of Richard Nixon.

The Post faced immense backlash in the fall of 2024 after Bezos pulled a prewritten endorsement of then-Vice President Kamala Harris just before the presidential election. Within days, the paper lost more than 250,000 subscriptions.

As of August 2025, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced a "OneGov" agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) that provides federal agencies with up to $1 billion in direct incentive credits for cloud services, modernization support, and training through December 31, 2028.

Bezos is the largest shareholder in AWS.
