Local Product Bentsen Lifts URI Over #13 Delaware 38-34
Sunday, October 23, 2011
Bob Bentsen had a great high school career at Warwick Vets. It earned him a scholarship to URI to play football. But Bentsen knew that he'd have to wait his turn to get a shot at the starting job with Hofstra transfer Steve Probst manning the position.
Last weekend in Orono, Maine, Probst suffered a concussion giving Bentsen an opportunity. Yesterday he took full advantage of that opportunity lifting the Rams to an upset win over the 13th-ranked Delaware Blue Hens 38-34 on homecoming day at URI.
In his first career collegiate start, Bentsen went 18 for 33 for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also threw a pair of interceptions which, in the end, didn't matter.
