Raimondo, Chafee Form Special Pension Task Force

Thursday, June 16, 2011

General Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Governor Lincoln Chafee yesterday announced that they had formed a special advisory group to help them develop a pension reform plan that will be presented to the General Assembly later this year.

“There is no greater issue facing Rhode Island than fixing the pension problem once and for all,” Chafee said. “We must work collaboratively and honestly, with all parties at the table, to reach a solution that ensures the future prosperity of our state for our children and grandchildren.”

Members of the group include some of the biggest names in labor, business, and government, such as J. Michael Downey, head of Council 94, Bob Walsh, the executive director of the state NEA, Amica Chairman Robert A. DiMuccio, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, and Richard Licht, Director of the state Department of Administration. (See below for a complete list with bios.)

“Rhode Islanders must take action and engage on this issue as much as possible, because this issue affects everyone,” Raimondo said. “By partnering together, the Governor and I will work to solve a problem that has plagued our state for far too long.”

Who’s on the advisory group?
