“I congratulate Chief Armstrong on his appointment, and know that he will be an effective leader of the department,” Avedisian said. “Throughout his long career with the City of Warwick, he has earned the respect of the rank and file, and is eager to build on the successes of our department, which has long been recognized as one of the best-trained and equipped in the state.”

“I am very honored to serve as the Chief of the Warwick Fire Department. I would like to continue to bring the Fire Department forward. I appreciate the work done by my predecessors, Chief Sullivan and Chief Chartier, and I will strive to continue with their visions as well as my own as we go forward,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong joined the department in 1980, and served as a firefighter for a decade until his promotion to lieutenant in 1990. After seven years at that post, he was promoted to captain. In 2003, he was named battalion chief.
