The Dunkin' Donuts and Rhode Island Convention Center Authority in collaboration with the Providence Police Department and the RI State Police will be installing additional measures for security at the entrances to the Dunkin' Donuts Center starting with the Providence Bruins vs. Hershey Bears hockey game on Friday, February 12.

"The safety of all of our patrons is very important for the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Our goal in heightening security measures at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center is to provide an environment where people can enjoy the event and not have to worry about their safety," said Executive Director, Rhode Island Convention Center Authority James McCarvill.

The security changes come after concerns regarding terrorist acts in Paris and other locations around the world.

“There have been no threats whatsoever towards the Dunkin’ Donuts Center or our events. These measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our patrons and employees and I would like to thank all of the assistance we have received from the City of Providence Police Chief Colonel – Hugh T. Clements, Jr., the office of RI State Division of Homeland Security, the Providence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), the RI Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA), the RI State Police and the City of Providence Fire Department. Working together, the public can rest easier knowing that behind the scenes there are people constantly monitoring the area surrounding the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and that we have installed the very best security measures to ensure safety at our events,“ said General Manager, Lawrence Lepore.

The Changes

The Dunkin’ Donuts Center will be using the following security procedures for all events presented at the arena:

    •    Walk thru metal detectors will be used at all entrances of the facility. Similar to procedures used at the airport, all patrons will walk through a metal detector prior to gaining access to the arena. If needed, security will perform pat downs on patrons in addition to the metal detectors.
    •    Bags that are larger than 13 5/8” x 15 ¼” will not be permitted thru the security zone.
    •    Cell phones will be permitted but no cameras will be allowed inside.
    •    Additional video cameras have been installed inside and outside to monitor the venue

The metal detectors will be located adjacent to the arena entrances. The Dunkin’ Donuts Center security staff will be located between the screening areas and the doorways for observation and protection. Patrons should plan to arrive earlier than normal to allow for this enhanced security process.
