Friday, October 28, 2011
State Rep. John Carnevale has been charged with one count of first degree sexual assault, one count of second degree sexual assault, and one count of assault with the intent to commit sexual assault, the Attorney General's office has confirmed.
The alleged incident took place in Johnston on July 28. According to the AG's office, Carnevale allegedly "assaulted an individual with the intent to commit sexual assault, and did commit sexual assault, with the sexual assault being in the first and second degree."
Carnevale is the fourth state lawmaker facing legal troubles this year.

Earlier this month, GoLocalProv reported that he was arrested in 2004 by the North Kingstown Police for allegedly assaulting his ex-wife, his third arrest in five years. In each incident, the charges were either dismissed or he was found not guilty.
Carnevale ran unopposed in 2008 and cruised to reelection last year, receiving nearly 85 percent of the vote in the general election.
