BREAKING NEWS: Providence Names Interim Superintendent

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

The Providence School Board has appointed Susan F. Lusi as interim superintendent, replacing Thomas Brady, who is stepping down at the end of this year.

Lusi will serve in the position for one year, allowing the city school board to conduct a national search with “broad stakeholder and community involvement.” Lusi, who is currently the superintendent of Portsmouth schools, will begin her position on July 16.

Lusi is currently the superintendent of Portsmouth schools and had previously worked in Providence as Chief of Staff from 2001 through 2003 under Superintendents Diana Lam and Melody Johnson.

“The School Board is delighted to welcome Sue Lusi back to Providence,” said Kathleen Crain, chair of the school board. “Her prior experience in our City, her leadership skills and her lifelong commitment to public education are exactly the strengths and skills our District needs to ensure that the work we have begun continues and flourishes. We look forward to creating a strong partnership that allows every child in Providence to receive the quality public education they need and deserve.”

where does this leave Capellan?

Ed Jucation

Hope she's not as corrupt and dishonest as many of those other clowns at 797 Westminster Street are...maybe she'll clean house.

Concerned Taxpayer

The only way this district will move anywhere is if they start at the top and get rid of as many people as possible in 797. End the favoritism and nepotism.

Providence is lucky to have her. Very competent person.

She is also a Broad Institute graduate, as were Brady, Melody Johnson, Dianna Lam and the big honcho Gist! Not sure this is a good thing for Providence right now
