Lynch Responds to Fox Endorsement of Cicilline

Thursday, April 29, 2010

The Bill Lynch campaign for Congress released the following statement this afternoon in response to House Speaker Gordon Fox's endorsement of Providence Mayor David Cicilline in the race for the First District - first reported on GoLocalProv.com earlier today:

“The most important endorsement to Bill Lynch is the endorsement of hard working Rhode Islanders who are being underserved by a dysfunctional and overly partisan Congress—a Congress simply incapable of creating solutions to the numerous economic problems affecting the country and Rhode Island in particular. Both Mayor Cicilline and Speaker Fox served together in the General Assembly for many, many years, so his endorsement of the mayor is not surprising,” said Bill Fischer, spokesperson for the Lynch for Congress campaign.

“As Mayor Cicilline is a 16-year entrenched incumbent, we fully expect he will continue to garner the support of certain members of the Democratic establishment. That being said, from the feedback Bill is getting while campaigning throughout the district, we remain convinced that voters, particularly in this election cycle, are not overly enthusiastic with incumbent candidates,” added Fischer.
