Shekarchi to Introduce Blockchain and Tax Code Legislation in 2019

House Majority Leader Joe Shekarchi joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE at the Rhode Island State House on Tuesday, for the first day of 2019 General Assembly session, and spoke to his legislative priorities in 2019. 

“I’m working on some legislation around blockchain technology — I want to see if it’s possible,” said Shekarchi, who was first elected to the House in 2012 — and was elected Majority Leader in 2016. “Restructuring of the tax code could actually create a benefit to Rhode Islanders because of the Trump tax cut and be revenue neutral to the state. They’re not ready to be introduced yet, I’m going to continue to work on them.”

“Obviously, a priority of mine — and everyone in the house — is the budget,” added Shekarchi. 

Shekarchi also spoke to Governor Gina Raimondo’s inauguration speech and her vision for the state during her second term.
