Lima on LIVE: Supporting Use of Stun Guns, Tasers in RI with Permit

Representative Charlene Lima
Representative Charlene Lima joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle to talk about sponsoring legislation to authorized the use of stun guns and tasers in Rhode Island, after the issuance of a permit from the Attorney General.

“There was a woman in Massachusetts, who had a dangerous ex,” said Lima. “She was in fear. She got a taser and was arrested as a criminal. AWARE — Arming Women Against Rape and Endangerment — took it to the Supreme Court.”

“The Supreme Court sent the message it’s someone’s second amendment, constitutional right to have a taser — [there are] 47 other states where it’s legal,” said Lima of her legislation, House Bill 8119.

“The issue is moot whether or not to do it,” said Lima. “The Supreme Court already said you can’t ban them.  It’s a non-lethal form of self-defense.”
