LIVE: URI Researcher Engelhart On Impacts Of A Sinking State & Rising Sea Levels

He spoke about rising sea levels and how coastal communities are under threat because of the duality of sinking coastlines and rising waters.
While we may see nuisance flooding now, Engelhart says infrastructure, roads, septic systems are all at risk with the possibility of three feet sea-level rise.
The associate professor also spoke about recent findings published in Nature Communications.
“They found that for every five-year delay, the middle sea level projection for 2300 increases by eight inches. At the high end, every five years could mean an additional three feet of sea-level rise if the Antarctic ice sheet undergoes a major destabilization,” Engelhart says.
