LIVE: Lilian Calderon's Lawyer Harris Talks Next Steps, After ICE Defended Detention

Responding to a federal judge’s order demanding answers as to why ICE officials detained Calderon for almost a month, an ICE official cited three reasons, according to the RI ACLU: it believed her 2002 order of removal—which she had been taking steps to address since 2016 under available regulations—rendered her a flight risk; the “availability of bed space”; and the “lack of child care issues.”
The official also acknowledged that Calderon could be subject to detention again after a three-month stay that ICE issued expires.
Harris spoke to what he called the "inhumane" rationale by ICE, and how he plans to fight for Calderon's case moving forward.
