Newport Tree Society to Host Spring Fling 2016 on Thursday, Honor 4 Institutions

The Arboretum at Salve Regina is one of 4 institutions receiving an award.

The Newport Tree Society and Arboretum and the Daffodillion Project are hosting a public celebration in honor of 2016 Arboretum Week on Thursday, April 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Chanler Hotel on the Cliff Walk. 

Hors d'oeuvres, live music and a complimentary toast to mother nature will kick off the party.

In February 2016, Newport officially became the first city in the United States to boast four professionally accredited arboreta. Those institutions will be recognized at the event with awards from the Newport Tree Society.

The institutions are: 

•    The Newport Arboretum (New England’s first citywide arboretum)
•    The Newport Mansions Arboretum (Preservation Society of Newport County)
•    The Arboretum at Salve Regina (Salve Regina University)
•    American Museum of Illustration Arboretum on Bellevue Avenue

Tickets for Spring Fling are $30 or $25 with a Daffodillion pin and will be available at the door. 

The Daffodillion Project 

The Daffodillion Project's goal is to plant 100,000 daffodils to beautify Newport. The Newport Tree Society will direct proceeds to the planting of Arbor Day Trees across the City.
