R2-D2 Actor Kenny Baker Coming to RI Comic Con 2016

Rhode Island Comic Con announced on Wednesday, May 4 ( aka Star Wars Day) that Kenny Baker, the actor who played R2-D2 in  the Star Wars films will be coming to the 2016 RI Comic Con. This will be Baker's only United States appearance.

Baker began his role as R2 in the 1977 Star Wars movie and would play him in the next five movies. Baker was credited as a consultant in The Force Awakens and actor Jimmy Vee will take over the role of R2 starting in Episode VIII. 

R2 is one of the main droids in the Star Wars saga, along with C-3PO, and originally belonged to Padme Amidala before being passed on to Anakin Skywalker and then finding its way to Luke Skywalker. 

Baker also starred in Time Bandits and Mona Lisa. 

He was born in Birmingham England in 1934 and started performing in 1950 at the age of 16. 

Comic Con is Loading up

Rhode Island Comic Con 2016 is loading up with celebrities. Comic Con announced in April that comic book legend Stan Lee would be coming and in February that Gotham's Robin Lord Taylor is coming. Comic Con  announced that Jason David Frank, the original Green Ranger from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be attending. 

Prior to that, Comic Con announced that Kevin Eastman, the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is attending.

There are still more announcements to come. 

RI Comic Con 2016

Rhode Island comic Con 2016 will take place from November 11th to the 13th at the Rhode Island Convention and Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Comic Con 2015 was a huge success, drawing close to 60,000 people, including vendors and artists, to the event.
