NEW: Chanler at Cliff Walk Makes US News Top Hotels 2012

Newport's gracious Chanler at Cliff Walk has scored yet another national plum: this time being named to US News and World Report's brand-new Best Hotels in the USA 2012 ranking.
The Chanler is the only Rhode Island hotel to make the 154-hotel list just released by US News, and it takes the #132 position.
How US News ranks hotels
The new ranking reflects US News' analysis of recommendations of properties across, as they put it, both in-house expert and guest reviews compiled from "legions of guidebooks, magazines, and websites." In search of those hotels that "consistently came out on top," US News assesses these reviews and comes up with its winners.
"The properties reflected on this list are winners not only for their luxurious amenities, fine service, and lavish décor, but also for the way they showcase America's diversity," wrote US News' Emily H. Bratcher. "These properties range from major hotel brands to independent boutiques, and you'll find them in states from California to Montana to South Carolina—truly from "sea to shining sea."

Here in Rhode Island along our stretch of shining sea, the Chanler at Cliff Walk was cited as Newport's #1 hotel. "Nestled on the shore just steps from Newport's popular Cliff Walk," according to US News, "The Chanler's strongest feature is its breathtaking view and idyllic location. The rooms are beautifully designed and named for posh namesakes -- Louis XIV and the English Tudor suites are among the most dramatic. Guests praise the attentive staff and romantic, tranquil setting."
The Chanler's resume didn't hurt, either. The luxury inn has nabbed all kinds of honors, including Condé Nast Traveler Gold List 2012, AAA/CAA Four Diamond Lodgings 2012, Travel and Leisure 500 World's Best Hotels 2011, and Frommer's "Exceptional" designation.

This year's winner's circle was dominated by the unlikely pairing of South Carolina and Hawaii. The top hotels for 2012:
