Beauty Profile: 316 Traditional Remedies

Saturday, June 26, 2010

Can soap cure cancer?  Maybe not entirely, but Christina “Tina” Almonte, founder of 316 Traditional Remedies made by Universal Providence, is certainly going to try. Almonte has been searching for a cure for cancer since 1989, living for a time in the Ecuadorian Amazon, studying the plants there and their magical healing properties. She also fell in love with the people, whose economic and personal well-being became a passion.

Many years later, after her husband Jim was diagnosed with cancer and made a miraculous recovery, the couple decided to join forces to fight the fight together; one bar of soap at a time. In addition, the couple is boosting the local economies of countries like Papua New Guinea and Ecuador by paying for the ingredients through farming partnerships and paying an additional 20% of the profits. Those funds help to support community education, HIV/AIDS research and a sustainable economic development.

The soaps and other personal care products are all-natural, made with soothing botanicals to help cancer patients and their families heal and find solace as well as for anyone to indulge in something that reaches far beyond the bathtub. Delicious and nourishing ingredients like Lemongrass (revives), Neem (natural antibacterial), Lavender (relaxes), and olive oil (pure moisture) make 316 Traditional Remedies both good for the body and the spirit.

Products range from bar and liquid soaps to body butters, body lotions, bath salts, bath teas and crackers, body scrubs and gift sets.  Items are available at various retailers including select Whole Foods Markets, Wilbur’s General Store in Little Compton, and online at www.amazon.com.
