"I'm really proud of the way our kids played today," said PCD head coach Ed Votolato. "They hustled their butts off as hard as they could for 48 minutes, and we were able to put the ball in the cage more than Wheeler did."

Volato praised the efforts of his goalie Paul Shaw, who stopped 15 of the 23 shots he faced. "Our goalie had an outstanding game. He stopped a lot of tough shots, and he was able to clear the ball very well a number of times," he said.

Adrian Stone led Wheeler with 4 goals, and Willie Tyler added 2 goals and 3 assists for the Warriors (6-8) ,who trailed for most of the game.

"I think we ran into a more athletic team today," said Wheeler head coach Kurt Stenberg. "They moved the ball better, and they played more like a team. We tried to play zone defense to start the second half, but they were very successful after they picked up on how to beat it."

"We had a quality season," he said.  "We had some excellent wins despite the losses, and we were very competitive with every team. I'm proud of them."

Providence Country Day will face top-seeded East Greenwich High School (13-1, 13-0, Division I) if the Avengers defeat Middletown tonight. That game was scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

"We're just going to go out and play well and see what happens [in the next round]," Votolato said.
