1. What do you think is the biggest political issue this campaign season in Rhode Island?
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTThe biggest issue in this election is the current condition of our State’s infrastructure, from our roads, bridges, highways or even our sidewalks being in disrepair. While campaigning door-to-door, voters have expressed this concern, especially when the state has an $877 million dollar budget surplus, which was leftover money from the federal COVID-19 funds. I strongly believe the state can use some of these funds to expedite our infrastructure projects.
2. What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island’s economy?
Inflation is hurting everyone in our country and Rhode Island is no exception! We need to support our local famers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. I also, believe we need to suspend the state gas and electric tax rates to offset the skyrocketing costs which are hurting the middle class and small businesses that are forced to pass the costs down to the consumer.
3. What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?
Education is a great challenge that is facing Rhode Island. I believe that all children and educators deserve safe, clean and quality faculties to learn and work in. We must have adequate funding to make this a reality. I believe if we use some of the COVID funds from the state budget surplus, this would be very beneficial for education! In addition, we need to provide better school security to ensure the safety of both students and educators in all facilities.
4. Why are you running for office? What makes you uniquely qualified?
I am running for office because just like my fellow constituents in my district, we are tired of seeing the current direction our state is heading in and they feel underrepresented. Many voters feel that the current representation doesn’t stand up for the voters’ interests but seems to favor certain political interests. I pledge to put the people’s interests first before special interests. This being my second time running for state representative, I have developed great relationships with the voters and local businesses and I have been listening to their concerns, especially over the last two years, struggling through the COVID- 19 pandemic. I also have been a Rhode Islander my whole life and lived in Tiverton for 27 years and understand the local issues of my community, including being a student in the Tiverton School system K- 12 and have personally experienced it firsthand, in which, I feel I would be a much more effective advocate for the schools.
5. Who is your inspiration?
My inspiration is President Ronald W. Reagan. He was a champion of Democracy and believed in the involvement in civics and the importance of freedom. His presidency has also helped me realize that nothing is impossible!
