Ron Moss, the husband of Robin Moss, one of the victims of the shooting in Westerly in December, said his wife's recovery has been "nothing short of miraculous" -- and that he has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community.

Talking this week with GoLocal, Ron Moss said how his wife, who was in critical condition following the shooting, was recently transferred to a rehabilitation facility closer to the family home -- and just had her purse returned to her from authorities following the investigation at the crime scene.

"It was Robin's last day as property manager. Julie [Lynn Cardinal] was the assistant manager, and was going to take over for Robin the following week," said Moss, of his wife just having hours left working at the Babcock Apartment Complex.

"When she got her purse back, there was a thank-you card in it she had gotten from Julie that morning," said Moss. "That hit her hard."

GoFundMe Set Up for Family

Ron Moss said he has been by his wife's side since the incident, on unpaid leave from his job as a property manager as well.

A GoFundMe has been established to help the family -- with the Moss children being 18, 16, 8, and 5 -- and Moss said "every little bit helps."

"The kids are much better now that she's closer to home," said Moss. "She's doing really well -- she's made tremendous progress."

Moss said that doctors have said she should be at the facility for 2 to 3 more weeks, but it could be as much as 4 to 6.

"She's more focused on everyone else," said Moss. "The survivor's guilt that she has, that she survived and Julie didn't, is hard."

"We want to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time," said Moss. "The town, the state, everyone. We're really grateful."
