NEW: RI DOT Holding Henderson Bridge Virtual Town Hall Meeting Tonight at 6 PM

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is holding a "virtual town hall meeting" on the proposed Henderson Bridge project on Wednesday, May 6 at 6 PM.
"RIDOT is continuing public involvement for our RhodeWorks projects during the COVID-19 crisis," said RIDOT.

Total Projected Cost: $88.5 Million
Detours Needed: Limited
Known as the Red Bridge, Henderson is a 26-span steel girder structure spanning 2,000 feet over the Seekonk River. It carries 20,000 vehicles per day and connects the cities of Providence and East Providence.
According to RIDOT, the bridge was "overbuilt."
"RIDOT will demolish it and build a narrower structure with two lanes of travel in the westbound direction and one lane of travel in the eastbound direction," says RIDOT.
