Active Winter Season Ahead for Northeast, Says AccuWeather in Newest Forecast

The winter season is right around the corner, but according to a new report, the winter weather won’t be in full effect in the northeast until the end of December -- and most likely the new year. 

According to a special report released this week by AccuWeather, winter weather will not hit the northeast until at least the end of 2019.

“I think you’re going to see a touch of winter come in in December. But I think its full force will hold out until after the new year,” said AccuWeather Expert Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok.

According to AccuWeather, above-normal snowfall could be in store in areas ranging from New York City to Boston.

“Whether or not it’s snowstorms, ice storms or mixed events, I do feel this is going to be an active year for the Northeast,” said Pastelok.

Weather Across the Country

While the northeast is expected to get snow, cities further south including Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. 

According to AccuWeather, water temperatures from the Gulf of Mexico to the Southeast and mid-Atlantic coasts are higher than normal.

The warm water could generate significant rain.

In the southwest and California, AccuWeather reports that a cool, unsettled pattern is in store.

However, there will be enough precipitation to prevent a drought.
