Second Beach in Middletown

In the last 15 months we have been contaminated, isolated, exasperated, frustrated and vaccinated — well, most of us.

Okay, the pandemic is not 100% over. More than 30% haven’t gotten vaccinated, but the proverbial glass is more than half-full -- so let's get back to it. Eating out. Traveling. Vacationing. Staycationing.

GoLocal editors dreamed about getting out and about to the best of Rhode Island over the past year and so we have built the ultimate "beach pail" list (rather than a bucket list — it just seems less final and more summery).

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLAST

This list ranges from the yum to the sun and even has a few suggestions for what to do on a rainy day.

The costs of the fun range from free to, well, get out the AMEX Black card.

We talked to experts, tourism folks, and food lovers.

Many of these are activities and eats that people from around the world come to enjoy.

Making the trip to check them out is a must on GoLocal's summer "beach pail" list

According to island history, they got their name because the battle of the Niantic and the Mohegan took place there in the mid-16th century.

Doughboy Sundae

Iggy's

The quintessential Rhode Island destination for doughboys, clam cakes, and chowder in Warwick recently added on a creamery, so if you've still got room after the delectable lunch, dinner, and OK, anytime fare, you're in for a treat.

The best of both worlds collided when Iggy's put forth its doughboy sundae. That's right, they improved upon perfection.  Why have ice cream, why have doughboys, when you can have both?

In a state where ice cream options abound, think outside the cone next time you're looking for a dessert. Think Iggy's.
