Rhode Island native and New York Times bestselling author and illustrator John Rocco appeared on GoLocal LIVE ahead of this Saturday’s “Rhode Island Festival of Children’s Books and Authors” at the Lincoln School in Providence.

Rocco has been making children’s books for the last 15 years, after working on projects at Disney from theme park rides — to serving as an art director on the movie Shrek.

On LIVE, he featured a few of the titles he’ll have at this weekend’s festival, including Blizzard and Camp Tiger — and previewed his next big project, “How We Got to the Moon,” which is currently in production.

A Barrington native, Rocco talked about Rhode Island luring him back.

“It’s where my heart is, it’s home, I grew up here, I clammed out in the bay, went to school here are RISD, and you always come back to the hearth,” he said.

Rocco, who illustrated the popular Percy Jackson series, said the festival on Saturday is a “fantastic opportunity to come out and meet some great authors and illustrators” who he called “some of the best.”
