The Coronavirus, the impact it’s having on us now, and the repercussions it will cause in the long run is a serious issue that keeps getting worse.

Therefore, I have decided to come up with an acronym to detail how we can defeat this crisis, stay safe, sane, and battle back.

C- Control /Cope/Concentrate. You want to control everything in your power, cope with what you can’t control, concentrate on what matters most, and conquer all your fears.

You CAN control your thoughts, actions, and how you conduct yourself through this crisis.

Make the choice now that this isn’t going to defeat you, and you will do everything in your power to lessen the impact this will cause all of us.

Cope with the fact that it will probably be at least a few months until this subsides and stop the wishful thinking that it won’t. Be realistic and deal with the circumstances.

Concentrate on making the most of a bad situation, focus on the health and safety of your family, and start thinking about how to rebound WHEN it’s over.

O - Overcome the negative, Obey the authorities turn Obstacles into Opportunities.

When you watch the news and listen to overly dramatic naysayers all the time, you will let negative thoughts get programmed into your head and control your mindset, which will throw you into a tailspin of anxiety and depression.

YES, take this seriously, but don’t let it eat you up all day long. If you watch the news, then you MUST LISTEN and take action by following what they are telling you and stay home, avoid human contact as much as possible, and do your part to prevent the spread.

This is an obstacle, yet a lot of opportunities will arise from this. You now have the time to work on your health, catch up on self-development, and get your life organized. Use these opportunities and make something positive out of a bad situation.

V - Victim mindset must go.

Remember, this isn’t happening to just you. The whole world will be affected when this is over, so don’t wallow and moan that this is altering YOUR life for the worse. We are all stuck inside, we are all missing our families, events, losing money, and throwing progress in reverse.

Everyone will be affected and believe it or not, some MORE than you.

I - Immune systems are the first line of defense.

Yes, washing your hands, social distancing, and wearing masks will help lessen your chances to exposure, but that’s just “surface” prevention. In order to really protect yourself in a battle, you need armor plating to defend yourself from “within”.

When going to war, you need guns and artillery to fight, but you need the bulletproof vest for real protection.

Physical activity, proper nutrition and supplementation, hydration and adequate sleep are the true defenders that you need on your side.

Clean hands will kill the surface germs, but a strong and healthy immune system will keep you from developing symptoms. Even if you do get the virus, your recovery time will be much less than someone that’s unhealthy.

D - Decide if you want to be part of the problem or part of the solution.

If you are social distancing, taking care of yourself, keeping a positive mindset, and being an asset to your community and the people that need help, you are being part of the solution by obeying the preventative process.

If you are still congregating with people, walking Blackstone Blvd, hanging in Oakland Beach, Goddard Park and throwing house / neighborhood block parties, then you are part of the problem and are causing us all to suffer longer than we need to.

You are not only selfish, and irresponsible, but ignorant to the harm you are causing.

When other states are completely closing down, our Governor pleads to stay home, and the cases are compounding daily, YOU NEED TO LISTEN, and do your part, otherwise this will drag out longer than it needs to.

It infuriates me when you see kids playing in packs, while the parents hang around and socialize.

You are no different than those nitwits in Florida during spring break, and you are not only putting yourself at risk, but everyone around you.

KNOCK IT OFF.

Folks, we are all in this together, and it will affect us all on some level, so understand that it takes a village to overcome something of this magnitude.

We have never been in a situation of this caliber, and hopefully, we will never be again.

Even natural disasters, the housing market collapse and events such as 911, didn’t hinder our lives as long as this will.

This is nothing but a test for all of us.

This will test our resiliency as humans, and the ones that walk out of this standing up, will be stronger and able to handle adversity better than ever before.

This is reserved for the ones that are willing to get up and go to battle every day, keep a positive mindset, overcome fear, and be willing to help others through the wreckage.

The ones that retreat, pull the blankets over their head, complain daily and binge watch Netflix all day will suffer and crumble under the weight of adversity.

The good news is that we all have a choice in our approach.

We all need to understand that we are responsible for everything in our lives, and that gives us the power and control to change our circumstances.

Committed to your health and success,

Coach Matt
