Mayor Cicilline has launched Providence's 8th annual Mayor's Coat Drive earlier this week to raise warm clothing donations for those in need this winter.

The Coat Drive is seeking donations of new or gently used coats, socks, sweatshirts and sweatpants, boots, blankets, gloves or hats - all of which will be donated to Rhode Island Donation Exchange Program and Crossroads Rhode Island.

Coats needed more than ever

According to Crossroads RI, the need for donations is great this year due to increases in homelessness. Karen Santilli, Vice President of Marketing and Development of Crossroads RI, said "This year, we're seeing more people who are new to homelessness, such as women and whole families. The generosity of Rhode Islanders will be appreciated more than ever."

Mayor Cicilline has encouraged everyone in Rhode Island to donate, saying "As we approach the winter months, it's important to reach out to families who don't have the resources to buy warm clothes and offer a helping hand. I am asking residents, businesses, students and employees to donate warm, clean winter clothing at a City office building near you."

Where to Donate:

Six collection bins have been set up in municipal buildings throughout Providence:
⁃ Providence City Hall, 25 Dorrance St
⁃ Providence Public Safety Complex, 325 Washington St
⁃ Providence Public Schools Administration, 797 Westminster St
⁃ Department of Public Works, 700 Allens Ave
⁃ Providence Water Supply, 552 Academy Ave
⁃ Department of Parks/Boathouse, 1000 Elmwood Ave

See below for a map of all six locations to find the donation bin nearest you.

Cicilline first initiated the Mayor's Coat Drive in January 2003 in response to a bitter cold snap that left many low-income and homeless families in distress. For more information on the Mayor’s Coat Drive, contact 401.351.4300 ext. 627
