Hotel Providence Sales Director Greg Nawrocki appeared on GoLocal LIVE where he talked about how the downtown hotel is innovating due to coronavirus constraints — and how “micro weddings” have seen a surge in popularity.

“It’s been a very difficult road for the hotel industry and the hospitality industry in general over the past few months but we tried to look at what it is that we can do,” said Nawrocki. “A lot of people were focusing on well we can't do this and we can't do that — and we had to stop and think well what is it that we can do and that's kind of what we started to focus on.”

Getting Out - And Staying Local

“We were trying to attract kind of those local travelers who just need to get out of their house, which has been really popular,” said Nawrocki. “I can't tell you how many times I answer the phone and it's somebody wanting to make a reservation and they say to us, I just need to get out of my house and look at four different walls than what I’ve been looking at.”

Keeping It Small

“One of our biggest promotions that we started back in May, back when we were so limited on what our gathering size could be is micro weddings,” he said.

“That market wants to happen no matter what. Corporate meetings and events are going to take a while to come back but the social market and weddings — they are dying to happen — people want to have weddings.”

“So we came up with this idea of doing a small wedding package where it was just between 10 and 20 people — whatever was allowed at the time — and it took off,” said Nawrocki. “It was the first one in the state — and now we are we are at 52 weddings and counting this year.”
