Allie’s Donuts in North Kingstown announced on Wednesday it is anticipating closing “some days in the upcoming weeks” — citing staffing issues.

“It is just temporary, but we will be doing our best to keep the doors open and have orders available at this time,” they said. “We appreciate your patience with us as we find people that can cut donuts.”

The business then further elaborated.

“Tough news, but we will get through it! Allie’s is hiring, starting pay $18/hour, for people that can come in and help us cut donuts,” the said. “It’s not the easiest work, but people love what we do for them! That’s why it’s good to be a member of the Allie’s Donuts Family.”

They added the emojis for peace, love, and donuts.

This year, Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee signed into law legislation that increases Rhode Island’s minimum hourly wage incrementally to $15 over the next few years.

The current $11.50 minimum will go up to $12.25 next January 1, then will increase annually until it hits $15 on January 1, 2025.

Latest for Allie’s

Allie’s made news in 2020 — for “discount” reasons.

As GoLocal reported: “Allie’s Donuts - From RI Favorite to Polarizing Political Brand That Has Offended Nearly Everyone:”

In 2016, Allie’s Donuts was landing on national lists of the best donuts in America.

Today, it is a bakery that has flipped political positions and now offended both critics of the police and the defenders.

Allie’s owner Matt Drescher on Sunday infuriated almost everyone with his latest political position.

After cutting the shop's discount to police and military in June in a political statement, Allie's said it now is offering free donuts for people to bring to police.
