URI's Comeback Falls Short, Lose to #6 Elon 24-21

The URI Rams football team fell 24-21 to #6 Elon on Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.

With the loss, URI drops to 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in the CAA. They have now lost three of their last four games.

Elon improves to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference.

URI’s Comeback Falls Short

After JaJuan Lawson connected hit Aaron Parker on an 82-yard touchdown pass to put the Rams up 7-0 after the extra point with 1:13 left in the first quarter, Elon would rip off 21 straight points to go up 21-7 just before the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Rams would get on the board in the fourth when Lawson connected with Parker on a four-yard pass to make the scored 21-14 with 6:29 to play.

Elon would extend their lead with a 19-yard field goal, making the scored 24-14 with 2:41 left to play in the game.

With just over a minute left, Lawson connected with Parker on a 20-yard pass to cut the Rams’ deficit to 24-21 after the extra point.

However, URI would not be able to get the ball back and would fall 24-21.

Lawson complex 25 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns in his return to action after missing several weeks with an injury.

Parker caught nine passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns.

Next Up

URI returns to action on Saturday, November 10 when they visit James Madison.

Game time is set for 2 p.m.
