Power Pack: RI High School Girls Soccer: October 22nd

There aren't many changes to this week's girls soccer Power Pack, but there are quite a few HUGE games this week as the regular season winds to a close. With the playoffs just around the corner, it's now or never, and buisiness is about to pick up. A clash of titans this Friday of the #1 and #2 teams in the state is just one matchup I'm looking forward to. Without further ado, here's the Top 10.
Power Pack: RI High School Girls Soccer: October 22nd
Smithfield
Division Record: 6-5-1 (Division 1)
League Record: 7-5-1
Smithfield holds onto the final spot in my Top 10 after a 3-0 victory over Barrington last week. With 32 goals on the season, Smithfield is tied for the Division 1 lead, and with a chance to win a couple games here this week against Coventry and Cumberland I think there’s a good chance Smithfield heads into the playoffs with a lot of momentum and a red-hot offense.
Last Week: #10
Pilgrim
Division Record: 10-2-1 (Division 2)
Overall Record: 11-2-1
Pilgrim continues to impress in Division 2 and faces a pesky Westerly team Tuesday before a showdown with Burrillville this Friday. With 35 goals for and only 9 goals allowed the Patriots have been flat out dominant at times.
Last Week: #9
Burrillville
Division Record: 10-2-0 (Division 2)
Overall Record: 10-4-1
Burrillville hasn’t played since last week and they stay in the 8 spot in my rankings. The Broncos close the season out against Pilgrim on Friday in a game that will likely determine who finishes in 2nd place in Division 2.
Last Week: #8
Warwick Veterans
Division Record: 9-3-0 (Division 2)
Overall Record: 9-4-0
Warwick Vets slipped up against Westerly and lost a 2-1 game last week. Now sitting in 4th place in Division 2, Vets is still my second ranked D2 team because of head to head wins over Burrillville and Pilgrim, but they haven’t done themselves any favors in the standings recently.
Last Week: #7
Lincoln
Division Record: 10-0-2 (Division 2)
Overall Record: 11-0-2
Lincoln rolled over East Providence last week and are set for a big matchup with Warwick Vets on Tuesday (10/22). The Lions need 4 points over their last 2 games to clinch first place in Division 2. With 43 goals for and 8 goals allowed, the Lions have been the most impressive team outside of Division 1 to this point.
Last Week: #6
Portsmouth
Division Record: 8-3-1 (Division 1)
League Record: 9-4-2
Portsmouth is on a 3 game winning streak and with a couple of wins to close the season they’ll leapfrog Exeter/West Greenwich and finish 4th in Division 1. The Patriots’ 6 goals allowed ranks 3rd best in the league.
Last Week: #5
Exeter/West Greenwich
Division Record: 8-2-3 (Division 1)
League Record: 9-2-3
With 32 goals in 15 league games, EWG has the most explosive offense in Division 1 and can beat anyone on any given day. A win on Tuesday (10/22) in their division finale will clinch a Top 5 seed for the Scarlet Knights.
Last Week: #4
St. Mary's Bay View
Division Record: 8-1-3 (Division 1)
League Record: 9-1-6
The Bengals tied a scrappy South Kingstown team last Friday and missed out on an opportunity to put the pressure on East Greenwich for the #2 seed. That said Bay View needs just 4 points over its last 2 matches to secure the #3 seed in Division 1.
Last Week: #3
East Greenwich
Division Record: 9-0-3 (Division 1)
League Record: 10-0-3
East Greenwich also had a disappointing tie this past week, but didn’t suffer at all in the Standings or in these rankings. With 17 goals for and only 3 against, EG is still a formidable force and their match with La Salle in the regular season finale this Friday is the most anticipated match of the season.
Last Week: #2
La Salle
Division Record: 10-0-2 (Division 1)
League Record: 10-3-4
La Salle still has yet to surrender a goal in Division 1 play this year and with only 2 games remaining it’s a real possibility that they could go the entire regular season without allowing a goal. The Rams need just 4 points over their last 2 matches to secure the top seed in Division 1.
Last Week: #1
